9-11

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?

New York

Washington D.C.

Pennsylvania

Were you in the yard with your wife and children
Or working on some stage in L.A.?

Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Risin' against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry.

Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?

Did you burst out in pride for the red, white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters?

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell
you the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you teaching a class full of innocent children
Or driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her?
Did you dust off that Bible at home?

Did you open your eyes, hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Or speak to some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Or go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Did you stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?

And the greatest is love.
And the greatest is love.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?

( Alan Jackson )

There are no words for me to describe this day, it was such a HORRIFIC day in American history.  I can not forget what it was like to hear that a plane had hit the world trade center, to turn on the TV and watch live as a second plane hit the second tower.  I can not forget hearing the voice of a man calling from inside the towers to describe what was going on minutes before the towers fell.  I can not forget watching people make the decision to jump from the towers instead of burning to death.  I can not forget the brave men and women, some in uniforms and some everyday heroes, who risked their own lives to help their fellow man.  I can not forget the guardian angels of flight 93 who so bravely lost their own lives fighting to bring down the terrorist on that flight, and in doing so saved countless others on the ground.  I can not forget....
I will never forget what I was doing on 9-11-01, every little feeling, image and sensation will forever be burned into my memory.

God bless all those that lost their lives that day.

Orange Crush!

Orange is one of my drop dead favorite colors to add to a room, any room!   Something about this warm, zingy color just works with any decor!  Whether it be modern or traditional!   I just can't get enough of this happy, poppy color!!
So I guess you can say I'm crushing on orange!

It seem like everybody thinks so too....

Who knew Frank Sinatra was a color expert as well as a crooner!

I hope you read number eight of Jonathan Adler's ten commandments of decorating!
How great would an orange door be!!  FABULOUS!!!
In fact make sure you read every single one of his commandments!  I'm sure your home will not be sorry you did!

I'm thinking this is just the orange Jonathan Adler was talking about!!
I'm sure you will pique your neighbors interest if you paint your door a lovely shade of orange as well!
Have any of you been brave enough to try this on your door?

Maybe you are a little uncertain about adding color to your home!  Don't be afraid!   It's easy!  If you are a little apprehensive, these fun little pillows are a perfect way to start!

If you want to be a little more bold with the color options in your home, painting a piece of furniture is a great way to do it!

Orange and white work beautifully together!

If you happen to be lucky enough to come across an Hermes scarf, if would look fabulous and rich, framed and hung on the wall!

Orange is also a fun poppy color to add to your summer or fall wardrobe!

Or just your fingers!
I have to find this nail polish, love it!!
What about you, are you crushing on orange?!?

Monday Mood Board.....a little late!

Well this weeks Monday Mood Board is just a little late, thanks to Irene for kicking out my internet for a few days!  This is another Master Bedroom, with on suite bathroom that I created.  The inspiration for the look was the art work!
We stuck with mostly calming grays and blues, with just a little pop of fun with a few yellow accessories!

What do you all think!?

P.S.  A { Blonde's} DIY Life is now on Facebook!  Yay!  So come on over and follow along!!  I mainly started the page to see what YOU ALL are working on that was inspired by something you saw here on the blog!  So I would love for you to link up images and such to share with everybody!  I kept getting so many emails from you all about projects you undertook after seeing one of my projects! I always get so excited to get them, but thought the Facebook page may be a bit easier for you all to share YOUR work!!  I just started this week, so bare with me as I get it all up and organized!  But I would love for you all to follow along and start sharing some of your projects!!  I'm also thinking that it would be great to even feature some of them right here on  A {Blonde's} DIY Life!

A Lovely Little Weekend.....errrhhh...kinda....

What a weekend!!!  I sincerely hope all of you on the East Cost made it through everything that Irene brought with her!  Thank goodness it was not as bad as was first predicted!  I'm grateful that in the 12 or so hours leading up to landfall in North Carolina, Irene decided to downgrade herself from a CAT 3 to a CAT 1!
We made it through the weekend just fine, with no damage to the apartment or either of our cars!  Honestly we are pretty lucky I've seen some insane pictures of some downed trees.
Anyway we have just now gotten our internet back up and working, our power thankfully was only out on Saturday!  I couldn't believe when it came back on so soon!  Seriously I may have jumped out of my seat, it made going through the rest of the storm a bit easier....the wind and rain was insanely crazy that night!  I don't think I have any nails left on my fingers, and I'm NOT a nail biter!

With the power out, we tried to kill time play cards....ohh yeah....we played Go Fish!

I'm just glad we had a few decks of cards on hand from a friend's recent wedding!

We ran out in our pj's the next morning to see how everything was!  As you can see, we are very happy all that wind was over!!

I hope you all had a rather uneventful time with Irene as well!!
Did you all get rain?  Crazy Wind?  Did you all loose power??

Since I haven't had internet for a while, I've been working on a little project for the living room!  One that I am super, SUPER excited about!!  It involves TONS of steps, so it's in-progress right now!  No peeks though....I don't want to give anything away!
See you all soon!

Irene, Irene....you are a biaatcchh!

Hey all!  I apologize for my lack of post this week, but it has been somewhat crazy!
Irene has been creating a bit of drama around here.....she is being a biiaatchh!

We are pretty close to Norfolk, Virginia.....which is in the EXTREME threat level of this hurricane!
I'm expecting to be without power for a while, so I hope you all will cut me a little slack for not posting if that's the case!  We are loaded up with water and food ( wine, Oreos and canned Starbucks Lattes! ), so I'm sure we are going to be fine,  just not sure how long the power might be out!  Past Hurricanes to our area have left most of us without power for two to four weeks!
I hope everyone else out there will be safe and smart if you also may be effected by this little inconvenience!
See you all soon!!!
