Lilly Love!

As I'm sure you've heard, we had a bit of excitement here in Virginia today; a 5.9 magnitude earthquake!  Quite an experience here on the East Coast!  There I was, sitting in the salon....getting my hair done, and all of a sudden things start to shake!  I mean I wasn't even really sure what was going on, ( we don't have earthquakes here!) until some ladies in the front came back saying we just had an earthquake!  Friends up and down the East Coast said they felt it too!  Whew weird day!  However, my hair came out great and nobody was hurt in the Quake, so it all ended up ok!

Now on to the lovely topic of Lilly.  If you live in the south like me,  I am sure you have heard of Lilly Pulitzer.  You probably either love the look or can not stand it!  It's bight, bold and colorful!  All of which I tend to love!  If you haven't heard,  Lilly Pulitzer came out with some pretty amazing fabrics this summer, they are unfortunately only available to the trade so you will have to find a friend, whom you can bribe,  or hire a decorator who can order some for you.   They are absolutely gorgeous!   Maybe someday they will eventually be available to us lowly do it your-selfers......a girl can dream! .... can't she?!?

Check out these gorgeous patterns!!

I could use about ten of these fabric choices just in my living room alone!  Sigh....

Lilly has also come out with a line of furniture to go alone with this yummy fabric!

Umm....hellooo gorgeous!!  That sofa is not for everyone, but I'm in LOVE!

Isn't that furniture absolutely to DIE for!!  It is available at  Neiman Marcus and Horchow if you just have to go take a look at all the pretty things for yourself!

I always use to think of  the clothing line as super preppy;  you know all polos with matching madras skirts, short, or dresses, but if you haven't checked out the line in a while you might be pleasantly surprised!
In fact, we had a rep come into the store last fall, she said Lilly was trying to broaden the look past much of that preppy only feel!   I love the direction they are going, it wonderfully gorgeous!
So I was super excited last night to get a Facebook update announcing the start of their
You may want to check it out,  but I warn you there is not much left!  I hopped on first thing this morning and was pleasantly surprised at the quantity and selection of items in the sale.  However they went FAST!!!
Here are a few of the goodies I snagged for myself!

I can't wait to wear this top with skinny jeans and tall brown boots!!

This one too!

I love the pattern on this cute workout top!  Somehow I always want to work out more when I have cute clothes on!!

This gorgeous dress was the real icing on the cake....the super sweetest deal of the century!  I have been eyeballing this dress since last spring, but at $328 with no reason or place to wear it; it was just not going to happen!!  But today I paid only $39!!  yup!! I seriously couldn't believe it when I saw it!  The real conundrum came when I had to decide on a color, four options were available and ALL were in my size!  I finally decided on black, one because I DON'T tend to get black and two I thought that would be the most versatile option for year round wear!

Have any of you bought any of the gorgeous furniture or fabrics Lilly Pulitzer is now offering?
Is it your thing, or do you pass on all the colorful brights in favor of a more subtle color palate?   Both of which are fabulous choices!
Are you a Lilly clothing lover?!  Did you manage to snag anything at the End of the Season Sale today??

How to Build a Sofa Table!

This is the story of a girl who could not find in stores what her little mind was imaging.  So she came up with a plan, sketched out some ideas, made some measurements, bought some wood, hesitated for the tiniest of moments-unsure of whether she could really accomplish such a feat, got over it,  picked up a drill, crossed her fingers, and got to work!
YAY!  I built some furniture!

Don't you hate it when you can't find what your looking for?!  Well if you have a little knowledge, which I did from learning how to use a lot of power tools in the art studio in college, and if you can sketch out a plan, I truly  think anyone can build some furniture!

Just so you know, I've never built any type of furniture before, so I'm definitely no expert!!
Well, I've kinda built something before, but the only woodworking that was done on it was to screw in turned legs I bought at a hardware store.  The rest was all painting and upholstery!  I'm talking about my DIY Ottoman I donated to a charity auction!

Here's how it all when down!

I bought all my wood from The Home Depot, they cut it for me free of charge!
So no saw needed!

Ok, don't judge me, but I did all the building of this inside, in my living room!
It was a bazzilion degrees outside, and I really wanted to finish them!!
Hey a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

Adding some trim to finish it all off!

I love that all the trim pieces fit together so seamlessly!!

I actually built two tables, since I wanted the piece to span nearly eight feet!  I wasn't sure about stability of a piece that long, and also I figured I would be able to reuse them a lot easier somewhere else if I want to change the room!

I can't decide on colors, so for now I just moved it all behind the sofa!
I'm looking forward to getting it all painted and styled!

The sofa table also hides a secret.  You see I use to store large painters canvas behind my sofa and sometimes it would peak out!  Well not anymore!  All my canvases fits snugly under my new
DIY'd sofa table!
Yay! For hidden storage!

I can't believe I built something! I'm so excited to paint this baby and try my hand at something else!
Like the accent table I blogged about here!

Side Table Dilemma

I mentioned in an earlier post that I  have been looking for a new side table for the living room.  Not even sure exactly what I want, I'm open to just about any shape and am pretty flexible about the color as well!  I've just been looking for something that speaks to me!
I've seen several that I've liked enough to bring them home and try out,  but I seem to be running into the same problem with all of them!  " What's the problem?" you ask!   Have you noticed that most of the side tables out there seem to be uber short!  I mean, many of them have felt like Elf furniture ( you know that scene from Elf where Will Ferrel is too big for the little elf beds and chairs, well that keeps popping in my head every time I bring a table home to try it out! ) maybe it's just me!  And it's not like Karl, my sofa is tall or anything;  in fact it's actually on the lower, more modern side of things!
I thought I found the perfect table when I ran into Target this past week!  I love this little table, and it is such a great price on sale for $69!
I mean you can even open the side panel and put something inside!  And check out that West Elm looking pattern on the sides!  LOVE!
Then I hear a voice say "isn't that one shorter than the last one?!"  ugh, why did  Josh have to go and burst my bubble!  But he was right, it barely made it up to my knees....well maybe right over my knees but still!  I like to wear heals a lot of the time, and really don't want to feel like a giant next to my furniture!  Maybe if I'm decorating a kiddie room this would be a perfect fit, but it does not fit the size I'm looking for!

So my weekend project is going to be undertaking the design and building of the perfect side table for my living room!
First, I checked out Ane White's website to see if I could find anything with the feel of what I was looking for. While I LOVE her site, I just didn't see what I wanted!  But she has so many building tips, that I'm sure to keep her site handy this weekend!
 So I'm designing something myself!
Totally not even going to use a pattern or anything.....haha I guess you don't use a pattern for wood working, but you get the idea.  I'm relatively certain I can complete this.....if it doesn't work out I guess I'll be back to the never ending search for the perfect side table....or at least one tall enough!

Here's is a little inspiration for what I am going to attempt to build this weekend!  Don't you love the nail head trim!  The color and trim are right in this photo, but I'm working on a different shape!
So stay tunned for a side table update this weekend!

Is it just me, or have you all notice the super tinie tiny side tables that have been floating around?!

Sneak Peak!

I finished my bench makeover!
Finished the painting!
Finished the reupholstery!
But......I ran out of daylight, so I really couldn't get any good light to take pictures....
I did manage to snap a little corner of it before I moved it back into my bedroom.....want to see?

I LOVE the fabric!
I can't wait to see what it's all going to look like when I finish my new bedroom curtains, did I mention that I was making new bedroom curtains?  Well I am!  But I need more hours in the day to get it all done!

Anyway we'll see what I can get accomplished tomorrow!

Redo Update!

So a little while ago I posted about this bench.  Well I finally found some time to paint the beauty!  I'm currently waiting for the first coat of paint to dry.  I choose a gorgeous Benjamin Moore  paint in Graphite, its kinda exciting seeing it all  come together I think its going to look great with my fabric!  So excited.
Anyway here are some of my  in progress pictures!

As you can see I'm painting inside today, it wasn't suppose to still be raining, but whatcha gonna do?

Taking breaks from painting I'm still trying to finish up Josh's Halloween Costume!

Maybe I'll get it all done today!
we'll see!
