Junk Mail

Guess what!  I finally took down my Christmas tree!  I know!  I know!  I'm probably the last person on the planet to get around to taking down the Christmas decor, but my tree was doing so well until this last week that I hated to take down a perfectly healthy tree!  Well, now that all the decorations are boxed up and put away, I've been cleaning and organizing the rest of the day!  There is nothing like getting rid of the clutter!
Since it was my New Years resolution, and I shared that with all of you, I thought you may want to see how it's going.

Do you get a crazy amount of junk mail?  Well I seem to get a ridiculous amount, and I know I'm not suppose to just throw something away with my name and address clearly printed on the front.  The risk of identity theft is to great!  So it all seems to pile up until my mail area looks a little something  like this......well exactly like this actually....

I figured it was time to do something about it, so I filed everything that I needed to keep, and the rest got sent through my handy little shredder!

My mail center went from bulging.....

to completely empty and ready for the next round of junk mail.....I'm hoping to keep up with it so it won't get so bad in a few months or so!

I also thought you might want to see how I organized all my fabric and sewing supplies!

I've got a few more boxes of fabric to go through, but I have plenty of room on the top shelf to add a few more!
Just is case you were wondering what sewing supplies could possibly be in the magazine organizers, I find them perfect to hold extra ribbon, trims, and things like zippers.  I like to wrap trims around a heavy-ish sort of cardboard to keep them from getting terribly wrinkled.   I hate pulling out trim thats all bent out of shape!
Anyway, what have you all been up to this weekend?

  1. I am so envious of your organization. I've been relegated to an ikea underbed storage area for some of my fabric. I have so much that I would never be able to fit it in little boxes like that even though it is SO cute!! Great job!! <3

  2. Just started following your blog! You are so creative...I'm in the early stages, but one day I'll get a wave of creativity to finish decorating my house. Like you, I organized. Closet, drawers, shelves - done! :)

  3. Oooh, I love how you organized your sewing supplies and fabric! Very cute...plus getting that mail down is a tough one. I know I have to throw it out right when I get it from the mail box or it will sit out. All the junk is yuck! Great job!

  8. A good suggestion I have for reducing junk mail is to starting calling all the credit card ads you get, catalogs you'll never order from, etc and request they remove you from their solicitations list.
I did that right before Christmas with Discover, Mastercard, etc and I haven't seen anything! It's so much nicer to have an empty mailbox & reduce our carbon footprint!

  9. I get sooo much junk mail, but I am bad and end up tossing it instead of shredding it. Although I get a lot of junk mail, I LOVE getting catalogs, so if I must, I'll put up with the random junk mail if it means i still get my catalog fix. :)

PS- I LOVE your mail sorter!!

  11. Hi, Ashley, don't you just love getting out from under all the junk mail? I did the same thing recently and it was the best feeling. I love shredding! I love your fabric organization too - so pretty!

  15. Great job! I have been making a point of going through my mail as soon as I bring it inside. I now have a place for everything that doesn't end up in the trash too. I will be posting it on my blog later this month. I just found your blog on Organize with Sandy and am now a new follower! I would love if you would link up with my "organizing party" that I am hosting this month!

  17. Hi! I stumbled across your junk mail post by accident, and I was just working on that last week. I am not totally trying to pimp my blog, but I cut way back on junk mail using the resources I talked about in my blog at http://livelaughloverecycle.blogspot.com/2011/01/lgo-2-conquering-clutter.html Things like DMA and credit card opt outs. Totally worked. And it means so much less to shred :-) Good luck ~Barbara
