DIY Bedroom Drapes!

I have been sewing feverishly this week to finish my bedroom drapes, and I am almost completely done with them! I really need to get serious and find some hardware for these beauties.
I had every intention of looking for drapery rings after I left work this evening, but I had a little problem.
These babies.....

They are nearly five inch heals and I wore them for almost 10 hours today!
Towards the end of the day I thought my toes might fall off....haha...not sure why I'm laughing...it might be the pain talking......I just couldn't bring myself to go shopping after a day like that!
What we suffer for fashion!
They are made by designer Claudia Cuiti { made in Italy } and cost a fortune, and I do mean a fortune!
Were talking the price of a sofa!
So of course I had to wear them all day!
A girl's gotta get her money's worth!

Anyway I'm thinking I want to find some bamboo drapery rings, kinda like this, but white.

I don't mind spray painting them, but I wanted to see if I could find some locally before I ordered some online.  Thats what I was planning on looking for after work tonight and those lovely shoes got in the way!

So here are a few pictures of my lovely new drapes I'm almost finishes with, all I have left is to hem them.
I don't have a ton of experience in sewing, more so then most people I guess.  I took a theater class, costume design,  in college and learned how to create custom patterns to fit the clothing that was needed for each play.  While I did learn to use a sewing machine in that class, the majority of the items we made were hand sewn, so I am by no means an expert at using a sewing machine.  But I have enough knowledge to create what I want, and  I am so glad I ending up taking that class!
I did a little research online and found that Isabella & Max has a great tutorial on how to make lined drapery panels!  So I used her tutorial as a guide, and went from there.

I can't wait to find some drapery rings I like, I'm exited to see them in my bedroom!
I'm also thinking I might make a roman shade to go underneath these, but I'm still trying to figure it all out!
I'll give you a break down of everything later....price...and really how I put the whole thing together when I have some more time!

  4. I've been reading and clicking around on blogs this morning for an hour now so I can't really remember who's responsible for leading me to yours but, something about it stands out and I'm your newest follower.

Love this fabric and I'm excited to see what you do with it.
    Have a great weekend.

  5. Love your drapery fabric, that would brighten up any room. I just bought a book on making window treatments and specifically was also interested in creating a Roman shade. They look like they have a good deal of steps, but that they aren't particularly difficult to make, just time consuming. What type of fabric would you use for your shade?

  6. Karen,
I have never made a roman shade before either! Actually I haven't even done my research on how to make one! I've got that on my do to list! I've read blogs about it though! If you happen to find the book you bought useful, I would love to know title!
I'm thinking I want to make mine with a crisp white fabric, and edge it in a green....I'm thinking Kate Spade green ribbon. But I'll have to see how it all looks when I get the drapes up! I might change my mind!

  7. I am so excited to come across this post. I was just telling someone that the reason the kitchen is so bland - just one simple valance over the sink. We have a slider that is in dire need of curtains - even if they don't close (although closing them would be great because the sun is quite strong on that side of the house). So coming across your blog (via "Polly Want a Crafter") was perfect timing. Going to make 'em myself! Can't wait to get cracking!
